REACh = Registration Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals
What is REACh?
The new European chemical law REACh came into force on June 1st, 2007, and covers all the chemicals produced, imported and used in the EU which have so far not been subject to any special testing obligations for the protection of human health and the environment (e.g. pharmaceuticals or pest control agents). In future, such chemicals are to be registered with the specially founded EU chemical agency in Helsinki (ECHA) and are subject to increasing test requirements depending on the quantity produced and degree of hazard.
The automotive industry will also face major challenges in this context. All materials used for vehicle production are subject to the new test guidelines.
